Ghost Piñata

Ghost Piñata - Bakeology.co.nz - A lifestyle blog that shares a love of baking and all things pretty

Halloween is only a few days away.  While New Zealand doesn’t celebrate to the extent that America does, this doesn’t mean that you can’t have a bit of fun and decorate by making a ghost piñata.

I kind of left this to the last minute so I had to come up with a way to make a ghost piñata that was easy and fast.  There was no way I could pull off creating a papier-mâché piñata before halloween and I didn’t want to spend too much time on something that was going to get smashed into pieces.

The great thing about this piñata is that it is completely freeform.  You can add as many or as little layers as you like.

Let’s get crafting!

You will need

  • A white paper lantern
  • White card stock
  • 1 packet of white crepe paper
  • Adhesive of choice – hot glue gun / double sided tape / PVA glue
  • Black card stock
  • String

Directions

  1. Cut out a circle of white card stock to place in the bottom of the lantern (so that all the yummy candy doesn’t fall out!)  Follow the instructions included with your lantern to put together.
  2. Wrap the bottom half of lantern with crepe paper.  Shred the bottom of the crepe paper so it looks like torn sheets.  Continue to layer the crepe paper until it is completely covered.
  3. Cut the eyes and mouth.  Stick onto the ghost.
  4. Fill with candy and hang.
  5. Smash.

Enjoy!
