In my opinion there is no real recipe for trifle. If you want to add lollies or jelly. Cool. If not, that’s cool too.
The following is a guideline to what we have been adding into our trifles over the years. The only twist is that instead of the usual vanilla sponge, I used blueberry muffins and the addition of fresh strawberries.
Don’t have time to make your own custard or muffins? No problem! Don’t be afraid to buy all the ingredients and put them together.
This will easily serve 8-14 people.
Ingredients
- 12 blueberry muffins
- raspberry jam
- 2 tablespoons brandy (optional)
- 1 litre custard
- 2 cans of peaches (in juice)
- a handful of strawberries
- 1 ¼ cup cream (whipped)
Directions
- Cut muffins in half and spread with raspberry jam. Place half of the muffins in the bottom of your dish and press down a little. Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of brandy.
- Spread half of the strawberries & one can of peaches over the muffins, including the juice.
- Pour half the custard over the peaches. Make sure to spread out.
- Repeat steps 1 to 3 with remaining ingredients.
- Pour whipped cream over last layer of custard, spreading evenly. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.
Enjoy!
